Other East Lothian attractions: The Museum of Flight has a unique and interesting collection of aeroplanes from a Vulcan bomber, an early passenger plane that you can board (De Havilland Comet) to their latest acquisition - Concorde. Located at an old airfield at East Fortune in East Lothian. The kids will love a visit here. Not far away is Myreton Motor Museum with a collection of 50 mostly pre war vehicles. Scotland's most southerly distillery, Glenkinchie near Pencaitland, has a visitor centre: (Open all year, Tel: 01875 340451 Daily opening hours: Mon to Fri 0930 to 1630 (Dec to Feb by appointment).
The East Lothian villages of Oldhamstocks, Pencaitland, Stenton, Garvald and Gifford to name a few have real old world charm. Beautiful little churches dating back to the 11th century. Stenton Gallery in the village of Stenton is a worth a visit. The little hill village of Garvald has a Cistercian Abbey. The monastery has new buildings as well as an old baronial mansion which is the monastic guest house. Gifford is another East Lothian village that will delight the senses. A village hall and parish church that will send you back in time, this must be one of the prettiest villages in Britain. |
