The Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe is a wonderful time to visit Edinburgh,
acts from all over the world from musicians to comedians, dance troupes, bands, and theatre.

A musician giving one of many previews on stages set up down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh's
old town. Top right is the Ross bandstand in Princes Street Gardens were unsigned acts can show
their talents to Edinburgh's festival visitors. Right is the big top situated on the Meadows were acts
like The Lady Boys of Bangkok perform.

Leaflets are thrust into the hands of  anyone who will take them advertising every type of
show imaginable. This chap has found a less comfortable way to hand out festival leaflets to the
amusement of those passing by.

There are several "Festivals" running at roughly same time, the original Edinburgh International Festival, The Edinburgh Festival Fringe,  Edinburgh Military Tattoo and more recently The Edinburgh Film Festival, Edinburgh Book Festival (on Charlotte Square), and Jazz Festival among others (links are on the right). You will not be short of something to do! Although getting tickets for popular shows is in itself an art!
Street performers fill the streets and even with the road closed to traffic it can be difficult to walk down The Royal Mile as people gather around comedians, flame throwers, mono cyclists, and more. There is a craft fair at St John's Church at the west end of Princes Street too, where artists, potters, weavers and others show their wares.

Edinburgh and the Festival are within easy reach of Cove Stables Holiday Cottages by road (mainly dual carriageway) and rail (nearest station at Dunbar).
We recommend going by train, it can be very difficult to park in Edinburgh during the festival - the population of the city more than doubles.
