Cove Stables Holiday Cottages provide a relaxing 'get away from it all' break with easy access to the Scottish capital Edinburgh and first English town of Berwick upon Tweed. The newly renovated barn has spectacular views over the Firth of Forth with its rugged coastline, exciting countryside and beach walks. Situated at the end of the Southern Upland Way it is perfectly positioned for ramblers.
Photographers bring your camera, artists your easel, while
geologists will be tempted with the exciting rock formations. Real car enthusiasts must not miss the Jim Clark Museum and annual car rally at Duns. Fishing by permit can be had on the Tweed, Whiteadder (there is a River Blackadder here too - just a wee burn though) and various fisheries and Lochs. Explore the rolling hills of Berwickshire, and the Scottish Borders home to Sir Walter Scott (Abbotsford, near Melrose). A perfect base for Southern Scotland and Northumbria in the North of England with Holy Island, Bamburgh, Alnwick and Alnmouth a short drive. The ruins of the Scottish Borders abbeys are full of atmosphere and tranquillity. Dryburgh, Melrose, Kelso and Jedburgh all have wonderful abbeys, and all but the first are situated in charming Scottish market towns. Dryburgh is particularly romantic and beautiful set by the river Tweed and is the burial place of both Sir Walter Scott and Earl Haig. From Smailholm Tower to the majestic turrets of Floors Castle there is history everywhere. The curtain wall of Tantallon Castle in East Lothian sits perched on the cliff tops above the crashing waves of the North Sea. Many of the Castles and Abbeys in the area and indeed Edinburgh Castle are managed by Historic Scotland and a weekly ticket is good value if you intend visiting several. The many museums in the area include the Museum of Flight with its newly acquired Concorde and many other amazing exhibits. The World of Boats in Eyemouth is fascinating with a collection of nigh on 400 boats. Myreton Motor Museum near Aberlady is worth a visit too and could be combined with a day at the Museum of Flight. Remember to walk down to nearby Cove Harbour
and Bay with its little beach, caves and natural arch. For
